Beadell Desert Track

Len Beadell and his road construction team opened up a vast area of Australia as they pushed through a network of tracks in some of the most inhospitable yet beautiful desert areas of Australia. These tracks through the Gibson, Great Victoria, Great and Little Sandy Deserts were built for the purpose of access to the atomic bomb testing site of Emu in the 1950's, assessment of radiation fallout, and recovery of rockets from flight paths chosen by Len. Apart from their original purpose, they have provided a much needed access to some of Australia's most remote areas, and have enabled travellers to see more of our beautiful country. Tracks travelled are included in our Highlights section.

The Rudall River National Park is the largest National Park in Western Australia and one of the largest in the world. It is rich in Aboriginal culture and Australian history. The Rudall River is a reliable major watercourse and attracts an abundance of wildlife.

There are free days to explore the colourful Pilbara before joining the southern section of the Canning Stock Route and exploring the Carnegie area.
